Post 11: Theme of the US so far

When we analyze the underlying message of the United States so far, I believe that we see one main theme. This theme is that our nation constructs its own narrative to foster unconditional support from its people. Our country constantly teaches the narrative that how we discovered and inhabited our land was through a brave feat of exploration followed by a peaceful embrace from the natives who graciously offered their land to us when we needed somewhere to stay. In reality, the people that first sailed to America were lost at sea when they stumbled upon land inhabited by natives. Then, the first settlers kicked the natives out of their homes while destroying their history and culture in the process. To this day we still celebrate our meeting the natives every year, remembering a feast everyone had together while trying to ignore the undertones of genocide and pillaging on our part. We also try to promote the narrative that all men are created equal and that America always conducts itself according to this philosophy, when in reality our history shows the opposite. Our country was built through slavery and continues to oppress many of its citizens.
